Across much of the United States, a deep political, cultural, and economic divide

exists between rural and urban/suburban people.

How can we move forward to:

  • Understand the legitimate grievances of rural voters;

  • Communicate with others who seem initially opposed;

  • Celebrate rural innovations;

  • Rein in corporations that pillage rural America;

  • Evaluate collaboration potential for specific issues in ROA/NRV?

Anthony Flaccavento is a farmer, author, and rural development consultant from Abingdon, Virginia, in the heart of Central Appalachia. His book, Building a Healthy Economy from the Bottom Up: Harnessing Real World Experience for Transformative Change, has been used by practitioners, students, and academics across the country.

Anthony was the Democratic candidate for Congress in Virginia (VA-9) in 2018 and is the co-founder of the Rural-Urban Bridge Initiative.
